Our therapists have both experience and expertise in providing care and service to older persons, having been involved in the provision of physiotherapy care to those residing in residential aged care and the community for the past decade.

We have a strong wellness and reablement approach which is well aligned with the Aged Care Act as well as the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC).

AN-ACC

The current residential aged care funding model, introduced in October 2022, Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) is a process that has been designed to assess a person’s functional, cognitive, and physical capability. This assessment is used to assign an AN-ACC classification to the resident, which in turn distributes funding based on the resident’s specific needs and associated cost of care.

At Our Physio Co, we understand the challenges residential care facilities face with respect to funding and care delivery. We aim to deliver a high quality of care, ensuring the residential aged care facilities funding is optimised. This is achieved by ensuring all resident assessments and care planning reflect the AN-ACC assessment requirements, making our clinicians available to speak directly with independent AN-ACC assessors when on-site, and promptly communicating any change in resident functional, physical and/or cognitive ability.

Our allied health services and treatments are available to all residents regardless of AN-ACC funding classification, rather they are based upon clinically assessed need.

Education and Training for facility staff including Manual Handling Training Packages

In a recent focus group study looking into the education needs of aged care staff, manual handling was identified as the number one issue by direct care staff. Increased staff education and training was also identified as a key area for improvement within the finding of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Our Physio Co offers comprehensive practical ‘hands on’ manual handling training sessions for both direct and non-direct care staff. We will ensure all staff receive annual manual handling training with competency assessment in line with occupational health and safety recommendations. In addition, our therapists are available to provide resident specific advice and strategies. We can also advise on aids and equipment to make the moving and handling of residents safe and comfortable for all.

Accompanying formal staff training sessions, staff coaching in real-time on the floor situations is part of this service. Our allied health therapists have expertise in falls risk management strategies as well as pressure and oedema care. Sharing this knowledge with care staff helps to contribute to high quality care of residents as well as minimise risk of adverse events.

Our Physio Co prides itself on offering a flexible and responsive service. We also offer toolbox style educational sessions for your staff in response to identified areas of improvement/concern.
